FAQs
General
Q: |
Where do you stay? |
A: |
We stay at a church camp just outside of Acuna. It has boys/girls dorm style rooms with bunkbeds as well as a commercial kitchen and large dining area. It is a gated area. |
Q: |
What do you eat? |
A: |
We will eat a hot breakfast and dinner each day with our team. We will pack a sack lunch each day to take to the work site. Families often cook for teams, so this may be an option on some work sites. |
Q: |
Is it safe? |
A: |
Since it's founding in 1993, Casas Por Cristo has never had an act of violence against anyone in any of their groups. The crime rate per capita is similar to Waco, TX. Each year we take individuals as young as 18 months and as old as 83 and have never had any issues other than the need for more naps! |
Q: |
Aren't there a lot of kidnappings and cartel in Mexico? |
A: |
In certain areas of Mexico, yes, just like there are certain areas in the US where it is not safe to be out and about after dark. Acuna, however, is not one of these places. |
Q: |
Do you drink the water? |
A: |
No. We bring or buy bottled water for the entirety of the trip. |
Q: |
How much does it cost? |
A: |
There is a required $100 deposit per person at the time of registering. Each individual or family must make a financial commitment in addition to their deposit. That amount will vary for each person/family based on ability. Each person/family must commit to giving a personal gift, seeking out donors from family and friends, and participating in at least one fundraiser. As a group we will fundraise for any lacking funds that are not covered individual/family contributions. It costs ~$1,200 per person to cover all of the expenses of the trip. |
